No. 2 Village carted off the top prize of $100,000 and trophy when they defeated Bath Settlement by 13 runs in the final of the recently concluded Aditiya Kids First Fund Foundation 20/20 cricket competition at the Bath Settlement Community Centre in Berbice.
Batting first, No. 2 reached 92-9 off their allotted overs with W. Hassan hitting the top score of 20. I. Adjodia was the main wrecker with the ball for Bath with 3-17.
Needing 93 to win, Bath were restricted to 79-9 off their 20 overs, falling short by 13 runs despite the top score of 28 by A. Dennis.
Doing the damage with the ball was K. Shewtahal who grabbed 3-16. Captain of the Bath Settlement team, L. Chetram was adjudged The Most Valuable Player. They also collected the loser’s prize of $75,000.
Shieldstown won the third prize of $60,000 after their nail biting 4 run win over Bath New Area, in a match that was reduced to 12 overs, Bath collecting $40,000 for their efforts. Scores; Shieldstown 77-4, Bath New Area, 73-5.
There was also a bowling and fielding competition for kids under 10 years, which saw all the participants being rewarded.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the establishment of a public Library and Resource Centre inclusive of Computers at Bath Settlement.
The crowd were treated to a cultural show that saw children of Cotton Tree Village and Bath Settlement performing. The event was sponsored by Jettoo Lumber Yard and Sawmilling of Coverden, East Bank Demerara.
The Aditiya Kids Trust Fund Foundation which was represented by its President Archie Mohan and the Canadian arm of the Foundation, is expressing its sincere thanks to Mr. Black of the Berbice Cricket Board, and teacher Kamla Ramnarain of Bath Primary School who contributed to the success of the event.
