If the batting of the Transport Sports Club (TSC) was terrible, the reply from the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) was even worse as TSC edged into the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Beharry Cup second division 40-overs cricket final with a thrilling one-run win at DCC yesterday.

Asked to bat on a track with preparation moisture in scorching heat, TSC slumped from a positive start to 103 all out in 29.1 overs as Skipper and former Guyana under-19 pacer Howard Chance took 4-16 from six overs and former Berbice senior team off-spinner Sean Devers supported with 2-15 from eight overs.
MSC then catapulted from 58-2 to 102 all out as leg-spinner Travis Blyden grabbed 3-16 from eight overs and got support from Terrence Poole (3-36) and medium pacer Shawn Massiah (2-12) in the low scoring affair.
After Kevin Alphonso thumped pacer Semion Sam for four boundaries in his rapid 30, Chance, who bowled unchanged from the Southern end, took the first four wickets to fall to push TSC on the ropes.
The experienced Massiah who hit a patient 17 before he was run out and Poole, who threw his bat for 21 with two sixes and two fours, tried to repair the damage but erratic shot selection, two run outs and tight bowling from former Guyana youth left-arm spinner Denis Legay (8-1-24-1) and Devers (8-2-15-2) maintained the pressure for MSC, the defending Georgetown Hand-in-Hand Champions.
Delvon Mc Ewan (11) and Vishal Singh (11) began well for MSC as TSC used the off-spin of Poole to open the bowling and although both openers were removed by lunch, MSC appeared to be coasting to their second consecutive City final at the interval.
However, TSC, led by Blyden and Poole, who operated in tandem, never gave up and aided by senseless batting from the talented but inconsistent MSC batsmen, slowly tightened their grip on the low scoring match.
Danny Narayan again showed why he is regarded as one of the best batsmen at MSC with an array of confident shots in a top score of 31 with four boundaries but once he was trapped leg before to the hyped-up Blyden, none of the last eight MSC batsmen reached double figures in an embarrassing exhibition of batsmanship.
Sarfraz Essu was run out for a duck, Randy Lindore was bowled by Poole after hitting two fours and Kwame Crosse (5) irresponsibly threw his wicket away with a lofted catch off Blyden to mid-off.
The game was still in the balance when Legay needlessly flicked Alphonso to square leg with four runs to win and two wickets remaining after already scoring six runs in the over.
Massiah then calmly plucked out two wickets in two balls to spark wild celebrations among the TSC supporters as their team, helped by a very poor batting display, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
With two to win and one run to tie the game, Chance was bowled by Massiah who trapped Devers leg before next ball for a first ball duck as the last three wickets tumbled for two runs.
