A Charlotte Street man has been sent to jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of panties, bars and some hair brushes from Donna Tappin, some time between September 20 and September 22.
The charge was simple larceny. The accused, Lindon Grenville, when he appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, told the court that he is 44 years old, lives at 169 Charlotte Street, and is self-employed.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews told the court that the accused was sent by Tappin to drop off the articles at a location.
Some time later, she noticed the items missing and reported the matter to the police. Grenville was arrested and subsequently admitted to stealing the items.
When it was his turn to say something, Grenville said that he was helping a friend and got caught in the process.
According to Grenville, he took the items to a friend and the friend had promised to pay him by a certain time. However, before he could be paid for the items, Tappin checked her items and noticed some missing.
The magistrate then enquired from the accused if this was his first offense, and he said yes.
The prosecution also said that, as far as they are aware, this is Grenville’s first offence.
The magistrate then sentenced Grenville to the minimum penalty of one year in jail.
