Troy Easton, 25, of 3800 Beaver Street, North Ruimveldt, was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He was charged with stealing one bicycle, valued at $14,000, from Roger Hinds on September 17 last.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, told the acting Chief Magistrate that he works at the Gafoor’s Huston Complex as a bond clerk.
Ms Robertson asked Hinds if he had anything to say, and the man said he was at an Internet café, where he left his bicycle outside. When he came back out, he said, eyewitnesses said that “Troy” had taken his bike.
He further told the court that he made a report at the Kitty Police Station, and the following night ranks at the station called him to inform him that they had the accused in custody.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews said that bail should be denied, because Easton does not have a fixed place of abode and he gave the police different names when he was arrested.
The prosecutor further said that bail should be denied, because Easton had resisted lawful arrest, and that he has other matters before the courts.
Easton is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Monday.
