The Guyana Football Referees Council will be holding its Annual General Meeting tomorrow at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, Thomas Lands commencing at 10:00 hrs. High on the Agenda will be the Election of Office Bearers and the Treasurers Report.
Alfred King the current present President, is expected to retain his position, while speculation is rife as to who will attain the position of Secretary, since that position is vacant.
Meanwhile, the Annual Fitness Run by the body was conducted on Saturday September 13 at the Eve Leary, Ground under the watchful eyes of Instructors Colin Aaron and Lawrence Griffith.
Also present were representatives of the Guyana Police Force inclusive of their Athletic Coach, Mr Lyndon Wilson, President of the GFF, Mr Colin Klass, President of the GFRC, Mr Alfred King and Secretary of the GFA, Mr Marlon Cole who also participated in the test and did well.
All of the FIFA Referees and Assistants were successful; hence, they will once again be nominated to the FIFA International List for 2009.
Those Referees are Otis James, Roy Mc Arthur, Stanley Lancaster, Roland Persaud, and Dianne Ferreira-James. The Assistants are Dion Inniss, Venton Mars, Abdulla Hamid, Rollin Tappin, Selwyn Blair, Nykasie Liverpool and Cynette Jeffrey.
Several other Referees from Georgetown, Berbice, Linden, West Demerara, East Coast and East Bank also successfully completed the run.
A number of FIFA Referees have been appointed to officiate in a series of overseas engagements. Among those appointed are: Nykasie Liverpool who will be officiating in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Chile 2008 during the period November 19 to December 7.
Otis James and Rollin Tappin will be officiating in the CFU Men’s U-20 Tournament in the Netherlands Antilles from October 9-18.
Roy Mc Arthur, Selwyn Blair and Venton Mars will be officiating in the Digicel Cup Group ‘C’ competition in Guadeloupe during the period October 9 to 16.
Dion Inniss will be officiating in the World Cup Qualifier in Canada on October 15 between Canada and Mexico.
And at the conclusion of the Referees Beginners course held during the period September 5 to 7 at the Carifesta Sports Complex, several persons achieved success.
Among them are Kerron Alexi Moore who topped the class, Paul Andrew Mc Calmont, Paul Anthony Babb, Floyd Raphael Lewis, Dwayne Morgan, Troy Gravesande, Kayode Lambert, Rushell Hackett, Brunetta Henry and Shavon Williams.
They are presently undergoing practical sessions and will be very soon venturing out on the field. The Referees are continuing their daily training sessions at the Eve Leary Ground from17:00 hrs, Monday to Thursday. All Referees are asked to take note of the sessions.
