The female amateur boxing team participating in the Female Pan Am Games in Trinidad and Tobago from October 1-8 departs today for the Twin Island Republic.
Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) President Affeeze Khan expressed pride in seeing the strides the young ladies have made in recent weeks and said he was hoping that they do extremely well in Trinidad.
Khan disclosed that the girls enjoy beauty treatment yesterday (having their hair, nails etc done) so that their feminine side could come out. He expressed the desire to see them qualify for the female World Championships to follow later.
Recently, the team was outfitted with blazers and the GABA boss had disclosed that this was due to the help of several business persons.
Those contributing to the cost of providing the blazers are Maurice Rajkumar, Kamal Kanhai, Amar Ali, George Humphrey and Suresh Sabnani.
The girls; Ansilla Norville, Alicia Marques, Mandessa Moses and Amanda Charles are coached by James Walcott, all out of the Harpy Eagles Gym in Albouystown.
Moses recently won a gold medal at the CABA games in Trinidad, while all the other girls are on their first outing. Marques is a find from Port Kaituma where Mark Yaw has been doing excellent work with the youngsters there.
