A junior court clerk at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court was yesterday placed under close arrest after a case docket containing information about the preliminary inquiry of an alleged rape and murder case disappeared.
This newspaper understands that the accused was recently committed to stand trial in the High Court for rape, after a hearing at the Wales Magistrates’ Court, and was granted bail.
There is currently no magistrate at the Wales court, and as such the docket was sent to Georgetown for the acting Chief Magistrate’s signature.
Kaieteur News has been reliably informed that the clerk erroneously gave a bailer the docket to sign, and it was then the preliminary inquiry file went missing.
The magistrate’s head clerk has since launched an investigation into the disappearance of the docket.
This is not the first time that a case docket has disappeared from the court, and the relevant authorities have planned to conduct a thorough investigation.
