Police have launched a manhunt for an armed robbery suspect who escaped from the Golden Grove Police Station yesterday.
A source said that Carlton Sampson, 27, bolted from the station lockups at around 08:00 hrs after assaulting a police constable.
According to one report, Sampson was being escorted from the lockups to a washroom when he suddenly pushed a police constable to the ground and sprinted out of the compound.
He reportedly fled to a bushy area in the vicinity of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara.
Police said that Sampson is a suspect in several armed robberies on the East Bank of Demerara.
It was the second time this week that a prisoner has escaped while being escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station.
On Monday, Junior Katwaroo, 18, of 419 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, jumped from a police vehicle and sprinted to freedom.
Katwaroo and Mark Mohamed, 26, who are suspects in a series of armed robberies, were placed in the tray of a police vehicle.
When the vehicle slowed down at the entrance to Diamond Housing Scheme, the two suspects jumped out and fled.
Ranks gave chase and Mohamed was arrested after he jumped into a nearby trench.
Katwaroo escaped into some nearby bushes.
Mohamed was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was treated and subsequently returned to police custody.
