The bodies of a Brazilian miner and his reputed wife were flown to the city yesterday, two days after the murder suicide at a mining camp at New Road, Middle Mazaruni.
Police in a press release said that they are investigating the incident which occurred about 09:30 hours on Tuesday.
Police had received a telephone call about the tragedy but had taken a while to reach the scene due to the inclement weather.
Investigations revealed that Brazilian miner and dredge owner Adinario Demira Ndo Brito, 49, and his 38-year old reputed wife, Irtaenildo Maria Leal De Arauge, had an argument over an alleged triangular love affair, during which he allegedly stabbed her repeatedly about the body.
The dredge owner then went outside of the mining camp and is suspected to have shot himself with an unlicensed shotgun which he had in his possession.
The police have recovered the unlicensed 12 gauge shotgun along with a spent cartridge and a knife believed to have been used to inflict the injuries to the woman. The bodies are now lying at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.
