The BL Crombie amateur boxing tournament, which was scheduled to be held at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue from today September 26 to 28, has been cancelled due to the unavailability of the National Gymnasium.
In a release from the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, it stated that they would like to express sincere regrets to all of the amateur boxing Gyms and supporters for not being able to run off this annual event.
The release stated that the tournament could not have been rescheduled for the month of October because some of their experienced boxers, referees and coaches being overseas participating in other tournaments including the Women’s Pan American Boxing championship which will be held in Trinidad & Tobago October 01- 08 and the 111Commonwealth Youth Games scheduled to be held in India October 12- 22.
It was disclosed that amateur boxers will still be able to showcase their talents at the Champion of Champions tournament set for November 21-23. This tournament will be sponsored by CAMEX LTD. Of 125 C Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown.
This tournament promises much excitement and will see 15 young boxers from Port Kaituma in the North West District traveling to Georgetown to participate for the first time at this level.
