Armed bandits in Sophia yesterday relieved a Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara businessman of a quantity of US currency after he strayed into the ‘C’ Field area while trying to locate his brother. Kurt Holder was relieved of US$1,500 by two men whom he had asked for directions.
Investigations revealed that Holder was driving his motor vehicle when he stopped to ask the men directions to a house.
Sensing that he was a stranger, the men whipped out firearms and held the businessman at gunpoint.
A source told this newspaper that the businessman begged the men not to harm him and assured them that he would cooperate.
He then handed over the cash to the two bandits who made good their escape by running towards the Lamaha Canal.
Holder told investigators that his brother lived in ‘B’ Field and he did not realize that he was actually in ‘C’ Field when he was attacked by the bandits. No one has so far been arrested.
