Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Brazilian miner who committed suicide shortly after killing his wife.
Unconfirmed reports stated that the incident occurred some time between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at New Road, Aranapai, Upper Mazaruni River.
Details of the incident are still sketchy as investigators who have gone into the remote area have not yet reported their findings.
However, this newspaper understands that the Brazilian miner, who is yet to be identified, used a shotgun to blast his wife before turning it on himself following a bitter domestic dispute.
A senior police source told Kaieteur News that the police received a telephone call informing them of the incident.
The source said that since it is raining incessantly in the area, the ranks who were deployed are experiencing some difficulty reaching the area where the incident reportedly occurred.
