Good Success, Sans Souci and Maria’s Pleasure recorded victories in the Salim Hack Speedboat Service 50-over knockout Cricket competition which commenced in Wakenaam last Sunday.
At Good Success, the host defeated Sans Souci Jaguars by 110 runs. Good Success batted first and made 207 all out in 42.2 overs in a match which was reduced to 43 overs because of a late start.
Nazeer Mohamed was their leading run getter with an attractive 68 while Chandreka Ragnauth contributed 44 and Motilall Doodnauth 21. Pacer Olwin Paton, who was given a two match ban by the Wakenaam Cricket Committed from representing the island because he pulled out from the Wakenaam senior team just before the semi-final in the recently concluded Busta Essequibo Cricket Festival, bagged 5 – 41 while Mark Gittens supported with 3 – 44.
In reply the Jaguars were skittled out for 97 in 28 overs. Skipper Safraz Mohamed top scored with 32 and Charles Benjamin made 15 as off spinner Keval Chulai with 4 – 23 and left arm spinner Imran Khan with 4 – 12 did the damage with the ball for Good Success.
At Sans Souci, the home team defeated Zeelandia by 221 runs. Sans Souci took first strike and rattled up 269 all out in 27 overs after the game was reduced to 30 overs due to a late start. Essequibo vice captain Wayne Osborne top scored with 33 and received valuable support from Nokta Moses 32, Varounie Sasepaul 29, Hera Sookram and Jaggernauth Manbodh 25 each. Saga Jadnkul claimed 4 – 36 and Navishaul Pooran 3 – 40 for Zeelandia. In reply the visitors were skittled out for a paltry 48 in 9 overs. Pacer Roopnarine Persaud took 7 – 9 off 5.2 overs.
And at Noitgedacht, the host went down to Maria’s Pleasure by 30 runs. Maria’s Pleasure batted first and made 170 in 30 overs. Kennard Lewis top scored with 35 while Elton Dharry took 4 – 32 and 14 year old Pacer Ansaar Khan 2 – 20. Noitgedacht replied with 140 all out in 24 overs.
Khan returned with the bat to top score with 32 while Lewis also showed his allround ability by taking 4 – 30 for Maria’s Pleasure.
The competition continues next Sunday with Good success coming up against Maria’s Pleasure in the semi-final.
The winner will play Sans Souci who drew the bye to the final. (Zaheer Mohamed)
