Sep 24, 2008 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
The intent of my missive is just to remind and inform the Commander-in-Chief and his Chief-of-Staff that the executives and members of the newly formed XGDG Association of honourable gentlemen anxiously awaits replies to the letters sent informing them both of the formation of the XGDF Association.
It is almost five months since the letters were dispatched to your respective offices.
The members of this Association have never lost respect for the army as an institution, and it is with this in mind that the president, filled with military courtesies, informed you of the Association’s existence.
The discipline of the parade square and the professionalism exhibited by the X’s compelled the executives to write you both.
To date, neither of you gentlemen holding the highest offices in the military organisation has seen it fit and justifiable to acknowledge the Association with the courtesy of a reply.
It would be interesting to know why the Chief-of-Staff did not reply. Or is it that he hasn’t been given the go-ahead? Commodore Best, the X’s were once active, and you likewise will be an X in the near future.
The XGDF Association will be around for as long as possible.
The Association will not be distracted from its objective, which is to sort out the welfare of our less fortunate brothers and sisters.
The irony of it all is that the X’s have been shortchanged for the Herculean tasks that were performed by the X-soldiers, who are now being disrespected by the hierarchy of the army — services which were distinguished and exemplary by any standard.
Many of our brothers and sisters have unfortunately ended up in indigent homes, notably the Palms, where they have to experience all sorts of abuse and humiliation from persons who have had the pleasure and hospitality of services they rendered.
They have been abandoned and rejected by those who now see them as burdens and hindrances.
The XGDF Association is concerned about the welfare of our brothers and sisters, and regardless if you reply or not Messrs. President and Chief-of-Staff, the Association will do what it has set out to do, and that is to take care of our indigent brothers and sisters, regardless of the constraints.
The Association, through its members, appeals to both gentlemen to let good sense prevail and do what is eminently appropriate.
