Lall Persaud a\k Kasho, 43, of Three Friends village, who is accused of stealing a quantity of boa constrictors, property of hire car driver and wild life exporter, Mohammad Nazmul, was today placed on $20,000 bail by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty, after he appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
Persaud was charged indictably and was not required to plead. He, however, pleaded not guilty when the court decided to take the matter summarily.
According to the police, on September 7 at Land of Plenty village, Essequibo Coast, Mohammad secured his snakes at around 17:00 hours. He told the police that at around 23:00 hours the snakes were missing. An eye witness reportedly saw Persaud walking on the Land of Plenty Public Road with the cage of snakes.
Counsel Sunil Scarce, who represented Persaud, told the court that Persaud is a sluice attendant and is not a flight risk.
The accused will return to court on October 21.
