Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday remanded a Canal Number Two Polder man, after he appeared in court charged with robbery under arms.
The accused, 23-year-old Drepaul Persaud, made his appearance at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates Court yesterday, on the allegation that on September 3, while armed with a gun, he robbed Omesh Singh of one cellular phone and $30,000 in cash.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was remanded after the court heard that he was being investigated for several other matters and currently has other matters before the court.
The matter will be called again on October 9 at the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
Also, at the Vreed-en-Hoop court yesterday, a Grove, East Bank Demerara man pleaded guilty to a simple larceny charge. Gowkarran Ganesh, 36, was remanded and is expected to know his fate at a later date.
It is alleged that, on September 19, he stole a quantity of sardines and mayonnaise totalling $2,400, property of Jaikishan.
To the charge he pleaded guilty, and was remanded into police custody until September 26, when he will return to court for sentencing.
