It’s less than three weeks to fight night and former World Boxing Council(WBC) welterweight champion Andrew “Sixheads” Lewis is still to predict his intentions for his upcoming clash with Howard “The Battersea Bomber” Eastman.
Yet anyone witnessing the former champion at work yesterday afternoon at the gym named in his honour, will reasonably assume that the former champ is gearing up for an early night.
Sporting a chiselled physique reminiscent of the one seen for the James Page encounter, Lewis pounded out several rounds on the heavy bag before turning his attention to the striking pads which he once again attacked with a vengeance. The word on the street is that Lewis is way past his prime and would be fodder for Eastman.
Lewis’ coach, Lennox “Cappel” Daniels refuted these claims saying that Lewis is in the best shape of his life and he (Daniels) is extremely confident that his charge would pull off a victory.
Asked to weigh Lewis’ chances against the wily Eastman, Daniels boasted that despite the fact that Lewis appears to have hit his peak, he is, in fact, merely 70 percent fit. “The final bit of work over the coming days will round him off nicely into the required form,” Daniels assured.
Lewis is using this fight as a launching pad to the international arena, a domain he had once occupied. His manager, Odinga Lumumba, who is also the promoter of this card, has promised to use all of connections to assist the former champion in realizing this feat.
Kaieteur Sport will continue to follow Lewis’ progress leading up to the fight. Efforts are currently being made to update fans on Eastman’s preparations as well as those of the other fighters scheduled to appear on the card.
