A helmet-trick by forward Manasseh Primo and double from strike partner Paul Bobb ensured ten-man Fruta Conquerors hammered Thomas United 8-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the 2nd annual DeSinco Group of Companies / Georgetown Football Association under-18 competition.
They will face the winner of the final quarter-final clash between Beacon and Sunburst Camptown which will be played on Wednesday.
The other game at the Tucville ground saw Alpha United easing past Flamingo 3-0 in a game that saw a player from each team red carded.
Also advancing to the semis following quarter-final match-ups on Saturday last, were home team Georgetown Football Club, who turned back the challenge of the highly touted BK International Western Tigers 3-1.
The resurging Thomas United team was no match for the powerful and solid Conquerors unit led by Primo. Thomas’ lone response came via a well taken free kick by Travis Savory in the 30th minute but that apart, they were not able to get off any shots to goal as the home team’s defence stood firm.
The men up front were equally sound as they reeled off shots from all angles, Primo rocking the nets in the 23rd, 35th, 38th and 45th minutes. Bobb touched in his in the 29th and 49th, Earl Mc Kay (64) and Christopher Doris from the spot in the 67th.
Conquerors were reduced to ten men late in the second half when Captain Kevin Lagadeau was sent off for using abusive language.
The earlier game at the Tucville ground saw Alpha taking care of Flamingo 3-0, compliments of a Kelwin Clatman double (13 & 26) with the other coming off the boot of Anthony Benfield in the 15th.
Alpha’s Andrew Murray was red carded also for abusive language in the 36th minute while Flamingo’s Roy Samuel’s was sent off for a similar offence in the 54th.
Over at the GFC ground, the home team used the advantage to full effect to blank Western Tigers as they withstood an extended period of offensive play by the Tigers who just could not score in the second half.
GFC signaled their intentions very early when Sherwin Barrow pushed them into the lead after just 4 minutes of exchanges as they used the home turf to full advantage.
That advantage increased after 19 minutes with a Javin Oslyn’s goal.
The Tigers tried their best to claw their way back and that they accomplished when captain and playmaker Colin Nelson finally got it right in the 43rd minute.
Thereafter, the Tigers went on a relentless offensive in search of the equaliser, came close on quite a few occasions but not close enough. As they kept up the battle their energy levels began to wane allowing the home team to increase the lead putting the game beyond their reach when substitute Gavin White converted in the 70th minute.
GFC will now face Alpha in semi-final action set for Saturday at the Tucville ground. The final quarter-final game between Beacon and Camptown will be contested on Wednesday at the Camptown ground, Campbellville.
