Local athletics coaches yesterday benefited from a clinic that the German Olympic Sports Confederation facilitated at the Young Men’s Christian Association.
The workshop was organised as part of German Sports Scientist, Uwe Wenzel schedule in Guyana to implement the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Kids’ Athletics Programme.
The workshop addressed subjects such as athletics programmes for kindergarten children, programmes to strengthen athletes, programmes for different age groups and high performance training for special events.
One of the coaches present at the seminar, Sham Johnny, described the forum as very productive and informative. He said that the clinic was certainly a step forward for the Athletics Association of Guyana.
“Most of the things I had no knowledge of. It was very profitable and fruitful,” Johnny told Kaieteur Sport. The one day event was organised as part of the developmental purpose of Wenzel’s tour to Guyana. After the theoretical session yesterday, coaches were accommodated at a practical session where they had to implement the things they learned in the classroom. Wenzel leaves Guyana on Saturday.
