DEAR EDITOR,
I feel obligated to address two horrors among many in our society. I feel that unless some kind of corrective measures are taken, then all will be lost.
Funny too, how when these patterns or habits or whatever we call them, are left untended, they become the norm, and soon enter the sphere of our culture.
First, it has to do with the role of the police in Guyana as it relates to traffic control. Too many times, police are canvassing in the less troubled areas.
For example, Buses that ply the East Bank and South of Georgetown areas are notorious for speeding, and the latter have kept up the loud and abrasive music. Many busses still have their music systems, and when approaching a lawman, will lower the volume.
I find this to be an indictment on police. I mean police are not so stupid as to be fooled by this gimmick. All that is needed is to legislate that the systems be removed from these vehicles.
That will solve all the noise problems. Also, why is it that buses, caught in any kind of traffic illegality, are asked to go to Brickdam or the relevant police station? Do operators have to go to the police precincts for charges to be effected?
What is the law here? Please Commissioner, give some help here. I have been asked to disembark on too many occasions.
My second grouse is with NCN Inc. What is happening is nauseating? I listen to the various newscasts, and these seem like history.
The items are repeated verbatim for more than one day. This, when complicated with ‘ungrammaticalities’ is sickening. If you doubt me, just listen for two straight days.
Too many times I called the sportscaster to point out that his items were obsolete, only to find out, that the news was pre-recorded. Imagine! Also the incongruities are too many. Isaiah Chappell on 98.1 Hot FM is quite an aberration.
He is afflicted with a tedium that drives listeners away. When you switch to VOG with Malcolm, the hollowness reaches a pinnacle when he cit-chats with Ron Robinson. Ron has peaked years ago.
I end by asking, why there was no use of Basil Persaud, Jaideo Doodnauth, Frederick Rampersaud and Segobin Seelall during Carifesta?
The station uses them all the time, so it has to be that they are incompetent and limited. If so, then simply seek to train them.
The latter two are strained and too affected: they need help, and yet nothing is done. I also take great umbrage as regards the “NIS and You” host.
This presenter is most unsuited and ill-trained for a speaking profession. She lags way behind, and should not be allowed air time. I suggest that help be given.
