DEAR EDITOR,
For the benefit of our Guyanese nation, I would like to respond to a publication of 17- 09-08, in the Guyana Chronicle, captioned “Minister Lall chides City Hall for lack of will, management”, referring to the costs of US$12.5 million for a new garbage-waste dumping site.
My outlined proposal and project plan, to relevant authorities in Guyana, pertinent to such garbage-waste disposals and recycling, would cost the Guyanese Government less than US$5 million and to which will serve as follows:-
A – The project will be a one time life-long investment and environmental friendly, thereby contributing to national and international interests, more over towards the Economical (GDP) growth of the country and will serve to elevate respective and perspective capacities as in terms of :-
1 – Revenues would be earned from recycling waste products: tins would be compressed into cube-bales; metals would be cut into suitable sizes; plastic bags, polystyrene and Styrofoam’s would be smelted into solid cube-pales; tyres and rubber materials would be sliced and chipped, all for export markets; glass bottles and materials would be crushed into powder and used to enforce mixed concrete substance;
2 – Locals would be afforded the opportunity of securing permanent jobs and improving their standard of living, leading towards the alleviation and the elimination of poverty;
3 – The atmospheric environment and its’ surroundings, would be greener, safer and cleaner from garbage-waste disposals, contributing positively towards international calls for climate changes;
4 – Sea-defence structures would be efficiently highlighted and enhanced in the advent of embarking on substantial constructions in distressed and desolated areas and areas of concern;
5 – Water front lands (difficult sea-defences reserved) would be harnessed, developed and beneficially utilised into Agro-Industrial and Socio-Economical base facilities;
6 – Traditionally, garbage-wastes would be on a demanding scale, which would be supplied by residents themselves, as in exchange for cash.
7 – Guyana can solely be afforded to execute such a project and margin itself within, as a pro and part of the industrialised world, where garbage-wastes and disposals are in great demand as a productive commodity and as raw-material resources.
8 – Our garbage city will once again become our garden city.Our Guyanese officials should seek to execute such a meaningful and sustainable project and to beneficially and substantially serve our nation in such a manner.
