Just when the police have announced that their continuing exercise ‘Operation Safeway’ is bearing fruit, a Novar, Mahaicony man was added to the country’s road fatality list.
Forty-four-year-old Ramgopaul Maraj died on the spot after he was struck down by a speeding car at about 18:15 hours on Wednesday.
According to the police, Maraj was walking along the main Mahaicony road when he allegedly walked into the path of the car while attempting to cross the road.
He was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
