The tournament will be an 8-a-side affair and according to the Organiser, keen competition is anticipated in the day/night event.
Since its inception in Secondary Schools, Covent Garden Secondary has won the title on 9 consecutive occasions. The only other team to win more that one competition was Institute of Business Education, capturing the last 2 that was organised.
Munroe informed that a number of the country’s leading cricketers came through the programme both from the primary and secondary levels.
Meanwhile, schools have until this Friday to confirm their participation and no school will be allowed to play in the tournament without prior registration.
Similar tournaments are also being planned for schools in Regions 2, 5, 6 & 10 and AL Sport and Promotions is currently working closely with President of Guyana Teachers’ Union Colwyn King to organise the programmes.
It was further disclosed that the Girls segment is expected to begin sometime in October and at its conclusion outstanding players will be selected to prepare for the upcoming 20/20 Series against Trinidad and Tobago in the Twin Island Republic scheduled for December and the annual West Indies Windball Championship in 2009.
