Pele handed Sunburst Camptown their first loss of the 2008 Cellink Premier League, 1-0, while defending champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United continue to claw their way back, pounding out a 4-0 win against GFC when competition continued on Tuesday evening at the Tucville ground.
Pele, who lost to Santos by a similar margin in the third place game of the inaugural Alpha Football Festival on Sunday evening at the Providence Stadium, showed no signs of disappointment in disposing of the out of sorts Camptown line up.
And while both teams were reduced to ten men, it was Camptown who reeled from the loss of Lance Rolston for serious foul play in the 18th minute.
Pele’s Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant followed him 4 minutes later when he was issued with a second yellow card.
Camptown struggled to finish against a resurgent Pele unit which played and executed well on the night.
The Sunburst team was surely not bursting with energy as they have shown in the past and were without the services of the inspirational Troy ‘Bugs’ Prescod who was introduced into the game until the 75th minute, arriving late due to work commitments.

But Pele who lost to Camptown via penalty kicks in the semi-finals of the Alpha Football Festival two weeks ago would entertain no such thoughts this time around.
They matched the Campbellville side in every department and took the opportunity when it presented itself to rock the nets in the 34th minute, Keoma Gravesande doing the honours.
Camptown were attacking as much as they could in the second half but were not able to find the equaliser even though they came very close on quite a few occasions.
They remain on 21 points while Pele moved up to 12, the same as Fruta Conquerors. The evening’s opening clash produced a solid win in terms of the score line for defending champs Alpha over Georgetown Football Club, (GFC).
Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams slammed in a brace (35 & 57) with one each from captain Shawn Bishop in the 26th from his trademark free kick, John Waldron sealing the deal in the 81st. Alpha’s win place them on 21 points the same as Camptown while GFC remain on 13.
Meanwhile, the battle will continue tomorrow evening at the same venue with another double header.
Opening at 18:00hrs will be Santos and GFC with the feature match between Conquerors and Pele.
Another double header is set for Sunday dubbed as the clash the titans, top of the table Guyana Defence Force facing off against defending champs Alpha in the main attraction, Camptown opening against an improved Uprising.
