– nurses’ stolen jewellery recovered
The prime suspect in the attack on two hospital nurses has reportedly confessed, and has led detectives to a resident to whom he gave items he stole from his victims.
Kaieteur News has learnt that police detained the other man on Monday and recovered a gold chain and a pair of earrings that the bandits had stolen from the nurses.
According to an official, the prime suspect, referred to as ‘Piggy,’ admitted to sexually assaulting one of the women. He also named his alleged accomplice in the robbery, but police are still to locate the accomplice.
Meanwhile, another official said that police also recovered a cell phone that ‘Piggy’ allegedly stole from a woman on Friday at Christianburg, after holding her at gunpoint.
The two men are being held at the Mackenzie Police Station, and indications are that charges are imminent. Initially, ‘Piggy’ had denied attacking the two nurses while admitting to the Christianburg robbery.
Kaieteur News understands that ‘Piggy’ alleges that a female staffer from the Mackenzie Hospital provided him with information about the number of employees that would have been on duty at the Wismar Hospital on the night the attack occurred.
But the female staffer denied the allegation during a confrontation detectives arranged between herself and the suspect.
Police confirmed that she is the same hospital employee at whose home ‘Piggy’ was arrested on Sunday.
The two nurses were held at gunpoint and robbed, at around 01:30 hrs on Thursday, by two masked men who invaded the compound.
At the time, the hospital was being guarded by unarmed female security staffers.
It is also alleged that on Friday, a man, later identified as ‘Piggy’, stopped at a woman’s house at Christianburg and asked for a drink of water.
When the woman’s daughter went for the water, ‘Piggy’ allegedly attacked the mother and dragged her into the house.
He then relieved her of three cell phones.
Police say that the suspect then robbed another resident of a bicycle and escaped.
