The Ministry of Health says it has not advised an evacuation of persons from the communities near the Mandela dumpsite.
In a release, the Ministry of Health says it has been monitoring the situation, particularly the health situation, in the communities.
“Our surveillance reports have not demonstrated an alarming rise of any kind of diseases in the last two months. “The increased health risks related to the fire at the Mandela Site are being monitored. Health facilities in those communities and at the GPHC have been alerted, and health workers are on the lookout for certain kinds of health conditions.” The Ministry of Health says it has assigned a surveillance officer to the Mandela Site on a permanent basis to monitor all happenings there.
– In addition, surveillance officers are compiling a register of persons from the affected communities for certain health conditions. These include homes with babies, homes with children, and others suffering from asthma.
