Despite a swashbuckling hundred by Demerara Cricket Club’s (DCC) Christopher Barnwell who clobbered 106, New Line Cavaliers were never intimidated and whipped DCC by three wickets to win the New Line Aqua Farm 20/20 competition contested under lights on Saturday last at the Number 2 Canal Sports Club ground on the West Bank of Demerara.
DCC were inserted first after losing the toss and amassed a challenging 190-7 off their overs with Barnwell smashing 106 and Jamal Hinckson 35.
Leading the bowling for New Line Cavaliers Chieu Gittens took 3-33, Anthony Ifill 2-28 with one each for Gajanand Singh and Mahendra Pratabj.
New Line Cavaliers in reply reached 191-7 with 4 balls to spare thanks to some solid performances from Gajanand Singh who made 41, Troy Gonsalves 33 and Avinash Sookdeo 31.
Barnwell capped a fine all round performance by taking 2-24 but it was not enough to save DCC from going under. Kester Harcourt had 2-37.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Barnwell was also on fire stroking an unbeaten 92 and took 2-25 as DCC defeated Mc Gill Superstars, successfully chasing Mc Gill’s total of 127 all out off 19.5 overs.
Cavaliers had taken care of enterprise by 6 wickets. Scores: Enterprise 187-3 off 20 overs; Cavaliers 188-4 off 17.1. The competition got underway at 15:30hrs and concluded at 03:00hrs Sunday.
