Partners with Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day SaintsFourteen Cricket Clubs and the Berbice Cricket Umpires Association (BCUA) on Thursday last received close to 1.3 million worth of educational and Hygiene Kits and balls compliments of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) under it’s Cricket Development Programme and in conjunction with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (CJCLDS).
The clubs benefitting from this generous donation are West Berbice, Blairmont, Bermine, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Canje, Albion, Chesney, Psychiatric Hospital, Port Mourant, Whim, Kildonan, Scottsburg, Skeldon and Police Sports Club.
RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster at the presentation stated that his entity is committed to the development of all clubs in Berbice as it would benefit youths in the fight against drug abuse and crime.
Foster also challenged all cricket administrators in Berbice to be more committed if the game is to be returned to be top, while noting that unlike when the RHTY&SC was formed in 1990 and received no assistance from other clubs, they continue to assist other organisations since it cannot be beneficial for them to survive and allow others to fall.
Elder Charles Tanner of the CJCLDS noted that his Church was pleased to be associated with the RHTY&SC, a champion in every sense.
Sports, he noted is one of the known avenues of keeping youths away from social ills and he challenged the cricket clubs to make full use of the donation.
Keith Foster, RHTY&SC President and First Vice President of the Berbice Cricket Board stated that Cricket is at the crossroads and donations of this nature would assist the clubs greatly.
He disclosed that they would continue its Cricket Development Programme and even expand it as it plays a major role in youth development.
Kildonan, Bermine, West Berbice and Whim Cricket teams all received cricket balls to assist them to play in the upcoming Second Division Tournament. The clubs would give the educational kits to it’s under-15 team and the hygiene kits to the less fortunate members.
RHTY&SC and Metro Office and Computer Supplies New Amsterdam also used the function to honour the Rose Hall Town Metro Female Cricketer, Nermala Sewdatt for obtaining 11 subjects at the recent CSEC Examinations.
Calling Ms. Sewdatt a positive role model, the club’s secretary praised her for successfully mixing education along and sports.
