Hydromet Office fire…Female employee faces arson charge

A female employee of the Hydrometeorological Office was yesterday arrested and charged following reports that she allegedly started the fire at the Brickdam office last Thursday.
Kaieteur News was told yesterday that she will appear in court soon to answer the criminal charge of arson.
This newspaper was told that the flammable substance, which was discovered by police last week, was reportedly found with the employee’s finger print.
Just about a week ago, pandemonium almost broke out at the three-storey Brickdam office when an alert employee discovered that a cupboard was on fire.
The fire was noticed by the staffer at about 17:00 hrs.
The employee was leaving the building when she noticed that the door of an office, which was supposed to be closed, ajar.
The office in which the fire was observed is that of an employee who is currently in Barbados.
After the fire was spotted, an alarm was raised and the fire service responded promptly.
The fire, this newspaper was told, was allegedly set to deter investigations into the office’s accounting records.
Meanwhile, police are also investigating another employee within the same office, who reportedly deleted records to assist her counterpart in hiding information.
