Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSC) and Port Mourant (PM) Cricket will clash on Sunday in the final of the 2008 Busta Champion of Champions Cricket competition at the Albion Ground.
The 50 overs a-side match bowls off at 09:30hrs and promises to be a highly competitive encounter with both teams boasting strong lineups on paper.
Starting as favorites will be RHTWSB which features several national players, the likes of Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon, Esuan Crandon and former National Andre Percival would lead a strong batting order with support from Renwick Batson, Delbert Hicks and Khemraj Mahadeo.
National fast blower Esuan Crandon spearheads the home team’s bowling attack and would be backed up by medium pacer Batson, offspinner Troy Mathieson, Royston Crandon, Fudadin, Percival, Mahadeo left arm leg spinner Ravi Narine.
Port Mourant’s quest for championship honours will depend heavily on former national middle order batsman Homchand Pooran, Moshin Perkan, Roopnarine Ramgobin, Rajiv Ivan and skipper Shameer Khan.
They would need to post a solid total on what is expected to be a spinner friendly track in order to give their bowling attack something to work with against the powerful Rose Hall Town batting line up.
Medium pacers Yogindra Harrinarine and Rodwell Cray would share the new ball and would be supported by off spinner Pooran, Ivan, Ramgobin, Rajendra Bolo and skipper Khan.
The winning team will walk away with $100,000 and the beautiful Busta trophy, while the runner up would receive $50,000 and a trophy. Prizes are also at stake for the best batsman, best bowler and Man-of-the-Final.
The tournament which is in its fifth year is organised by the Cricket Development Committee of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club and sponsored by the Guyana Beverage Inc. under its Busta brand.
In the past four tournaments, Rose Hall Town have won three of them and Port Mourant one.
The final would be broadcast live on NCN Radio and General Manager of Guyana Beverage Inc. Robert Selman will be present to meet the teams and distribute the prizes. The standing umpires are D. Somwaru and R. Haniff with R. Moakhan serving as the standby.
