Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital are battling to save the life of a three-year-old girl who fell out of a minibus.
Reports are that Shreedavie Singh, of Novar Mahaicony, fell out of the minibus as it was travelling along the Airy Hall Public Road. The incident occurred at sometime around 13:00 hours yesterday as the family was returning from a trip to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
A close friend of the family told this newspaper that the group left Mahaicony early yesterday morning to take a relative to the airport.
On the way back, as the minibus was negotiating a turn at Airy Hall, the driver heard the minibus door open, followed by a loud screaming.
After bringing the bus to a screeching halt, the driver along with the child’s mother and others who were in the minibus realized that the child had been flung out of the bus.
The child was picked up and rushed to the Mahaicony hospital.
However, because of her serious condition, the child was transferred to the Georgetown hospital.
However, the family friend, who asked not to be identified, lamented that getting the injured child to Georgetown proved to be a grueling task.
She related that while there was an ambulance to transport the child to the city, there was no driver for the ambulance. After making enquires, the family said, they were told that no driver worked on Sundays.
As such, the family said, they had to resort to finding their own transportation, not only for the injured toddler, but also for the medical staff accompanying her.
The child is said to have suffered severe head injuries, compounded with a dislocated shoulder, a broken arm and several lacerations about her body.
Up to late yesterday, the child was being prepared for a CT scan.
In the meantime, the matter has since been reported to the police and investigations are ongoing.
A police source told this newspaper that a thorough investigation will be conducted, since the details related by the relatives as to how the child received the injuries are contradictory.
