– fresh faces form Executive
By Edison Jefford
Executive Director of the Facts and Roses Organisation, Trevor Rose is the new President of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) following yesterday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections.
Kaieteur Sport was reliable informed that most of the voting clubs present at the meeting, which began around 1pm at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, endorsed Rose. Former President Chris Bowman did not seek re–election.
When contacted, Rose said that the first aim of the new Executive will be to regain the support of both patrons and the corporate community. He said that the Executive will meet shortly to decide on the way forward and the committee members.
“We have to regain public and corporate Guyana support. From that kind of backing we are expected to move forward with the sport smoothly,” Rose informed, adding that the new Executive also intend to place emphasis on the schools.
“We will target the schools and utilise our facilities. I can assure you that when we sit down at our first Executive meeting, we will plan a clear path forward. There must be tournaments,” the popular local fashion designer asserted.
Many of the clubs in Georgetown had expressed dissatisfaction with the Bowman–led GABA administration. Even President of the national federation, Godwin McPherson had said that enough “work” was not done under Bowman.
As a result, most of the clubs went to the forum aiming at reshuffling the Executive. No official from the previous Executive was retained as Attorney–at–Law, James Bond and Kelvin Simon took the First and Second Vice–President positions.
Bond comes from a strong basketball background and should present a fresh perspective of the sport in the City while Simon is an Executive of one of Guyana’s most durable clubs, Bounty Colts. Both are known basketball enthusiasts.
Courts Pacesetters’ Head Coach, Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan was voted in as Secretary with Beepat Scorpions’ Head Coach, Vijay Panday as his assistant. Panday is also the Assistant Treasurer after Joel Loncke took that position.
Formerly, David Carto had functioned in the First Vice–President post while Bruce Haynes was Secretary. Darcel Harris was Treasurer while Rayad Boyce managed the Assistant Secretary and Treasurer positions.
