The Guyana Relief Council recently provided assistance in the form of care packages to twelve students and the house mother of the Waramadong Secondary School dormitory, which was destroyed by fire last Sunday.
The packages were delivered on the Council’s behalf by the Minister within the Ministry of Education, Dr. Desiree Fox.
The fathers of the three young girls who lost their lives were also assisted by the Council.
In a press release, the Council reiterated that “it is the mandate of the Council to provide assistance in instances of disaster anywhere in Guyana and in a timely manner; this was surely achieved by this effort.”
The Council expressed appreciation to the Ministries of Amerindian Affairs and Education which facilitated the project through the provision of information and transportation of the packages. Members of staff and volunteers who worked on the preparation of the packages as well as the management of Vijay’s Variety Store, who provided some of the items were also thanked.
“The Guyana Relief Council wishes to express profound sympathy to the parents and relatives of the victims and also with the entire community who are no doubt deeply saddened by this tragedy.”
