Cabinet has signaled it’s no objection to charter a special aircraft, which will be used to fly the Cuban scholarship awardees directly to Cuba.
At his post Cabinet media briefing on Thursday, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said that the aircraft was chartered at a cost of US$100,000.
The students will leave Guyana later in the month as this batch of awardees includes engineers, medical doctors, veterinary doctors, agronomists, and physical education specialists.
Meanwhile, Dr. Luncheon also noted that Cabinet gave its no objections for the procurement of replacement engines and spares for the canfield power station, which is part of the heavy fuel oil conversion project.
These will be acquired at a cost of US$300,000.
In the power sector, a total of $16.1million was awarded for the procurement of pole sleepers and cross arms for Bartica as part of the electrification distribution system.
As it relates to the health sector, Cabinet gave its no objection to a sum of US$253,000 for the supply and delivery of furniture and recreational items for regional health facilities.
Added to that, $30.3 million was awarded for the provision of maintenance services for air condition systems at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), while in the education sector, Cabinet gave its no objection for the procurement of Rainbow Readers for the school system, contracted at a cost of US$434, 000 along with the ‘Nelson’s New West Indian Readers’ to the tune of $110 million.
In the agricultural sector, Cabinet gave its no objection for the supply and installation of a packaging facility and sugar processing equipment at Enmore on the East Coast of Demerara to the tune of $11.7 million.
