A twenty-three-year-old man from Supenaam, on the Essequibo Coast, has been hospitalised after he sustained a gunshot wound while easing his bowels. Reports are that Emanuel Williams was shot in the right thigh after he became entangled in a gun trap.
The incident occurred at around 22:00 hours on Thursday at Tapacuma Lake. This newspaper was told that the injured man, his brother and a friend were on a fishing expedition in the lake when Williams experienced a call of nature.
Williams asked the others to stop the boat so that he could go to ease his bowels in a clump of bushes on the bank of the lake. Reports are that as Williams was in the process of relieving himself, there was a loud noise and Williams began to scream.
Upon hearing the commotion, the other men went to investigate and found Williams bleeding from a wound on his thigh. The injured man was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Hospital. He was treated and subsequently admitted to the institution. Williams’s condition has been listed as stable. In the meantime, sources say, the area was thoroughly searched by police but no weapon was found, except for a part of the gun trap. Investigations are ongoing.
