Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle has denied bail to a 20-year-old man who was charged with attempted murder.
The accused, Dmatayo Laddel, of Christianburg, Linden, made his appearance yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on Monday September 1, at Section ‘C’, Christianburg, Wismar, Linden, Dmatayo Laddel wounded Michelle Rutherford with intent to commit murder. Laddel pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court was told that the virtual complainant in the case is the mother of the accused.
Prosecutor Denise Griffith asked that bail be refused because of the seriousness of the offence and given the fact that the virtual complainant is still hospitalized. She added that the defence is also concerned that if the accused is released on bail he might interfere with the witness, since they both live at the same address.
Bail was refused.
Laddel is expected to make his next court appearance at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on September 9.
