Belle Plaine defeated East Bank Essequibo by two games to nil to capture the $100,000 winner take all prize in a 15 overs softball cricket competition that was played at Good Success in Wakenaam last Sunday.
In the first game Belle Plaine batted first and made 151 all out in their allotted 15 overs. Tulsie Sahadeo top scored with 53 and Mark Gittens supported with 25. Bowling for East Bank Essequibo, there were two wickets each for T. Persaud, M. Singh and R. Mohamed.
In reply the visitors made 148 all out in 14 overs with D. Narine getting 29. Romel Rahat was the pick of the bowlers for Belle Plaine with 3 – 31 while Toolsie Sahadeo claimed 3 – 32 and Charles Benjamin 2 – 21.
In the second match, East Bank took first strike and were bowled out for 61 in 8 overs. Dhaniram Lallaram made 19. Macksood Khatweeb claimed 4 – 7, while Rahat and Chandreka Ragnauth picked up two each for Belle Plaine who hit off the required runs in 6 overs ending on 63 for 2. Ragnauth top scored with 42.
Belle Plaine took the $100,000 that was at stake.
