– President Jagdeo
Following calls made by the Alliance For Change, (AFC) and the no objection by the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for Government to release the clandestine video footage of members of the Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins Gang operating aback of Buxton, on the East Coast of Demerara, President Bharrat Jagdeo has said that the footage will not be released.
Speaking to members of the media yesterday, President Jagdeo said that there are still members of the gang operating in Guyana, and if the video footage is released, it will undermine the undercover operation of the place from whence the video footage was taken.
“It will still betray where they were taken from, and I don’t want to put anyone at risk. We still feel that there may be elements of the gang that are out there, and we are actively pursuing them now. In fact, I had a report where they are still looking for some members of the gang. ‘Fine Man’ and ‘Skinny’ are dead and some others, but there are still other members of the gang, and they had a support infrastructure that we are trying to dismantle…so the footage is not going to be released,” the President said.
President Jagdeo had, earlier in the year, revealed that the security forces are in possession of video tapes which contain engrossing evidence of the ‘Fine Man’ (Rondell Rawlins) Gang operating on the East Coast of Demerara, and it was very likely that persons whose images appeared on a tape recorded meeting with gunmen in Buxton could be detained soon.
Jagdeo had explained that some of the footage was taken from houses in Buxton, and a release of the tape would have shown the angle from which it was taken.
The other set of footage was taken by informants who had hidden cameras and who were sitting next to the criminals.
The President had noted that if the footage was to be released, then some persons would be embarrassed, as he had said that the video would show a lot of political figures who are linked to the criminals.
