Efforts are underway to ensure that closer binding ties are established between Africa and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) States and in this regard, Head of State, Bharrat Jagdeo, yesterday received a courtesy call from South Africa’s High Commissioner to Guyana, Faith Radebe, at his official residence, State House.
The High Commissioner, who is based in Jamaica, pointed out that her meeting with the Guyanese Leader also centered on the upcoming Summit to be held in South Africa on October 10 and 11, and which will see attendance by a number of Caribbean and African Government Officials.

“The Caribbean and African Governments have started a contact…in terms of conferences biannually….we are finding out the mechanisms of how we can bring the regions to work together in terms of programmes, increasing our capacity – CARICOM and Africa,” she explained.
Emphasising that the CARICOM and African regions have historic connections, the High Commissioner contended that the time has come for the two regions to strengthen their connections and their nations.
It is expected that in another two years, the Summit will be hosted in the Caribbean.
