Illegal vendors removed from vicinity of Amerindian Hostel

Several vendors who have been plying their trade in front of the Amerindian Hostel on Princes Street, some reportedly for approximately four years, were yesterday removed from the location.
Officers from the Mayor and City Council turned up at the location at around 11:00hrs and started to dismantle the illegal structures, while informing the vendors that they were not supposed to sell in front of the hostel.
One vendor complained that the officers took away her ‘glass case’ which had food inside, while another complained of his tarpaulins being cut down and other sellers had their beverages and confectionery taken away.  
The vendors noted that none of them were given any formal notice by the Mayor and City Council that they had to remove from the location.
When contacted for a comment, Mayor Hamilton Green said that City Hall received a complaint from persons within the hostel about the presence of the vendors in front of the facility.
The Mayor noted that he was not aware that the vendors were not given adequate notice to remove from the location.
Kaieteur News also sought to get a comment from the Administration Officer of Hostel, Virgil Ferreira who referred this newspaper to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
However, when Kaieteur News contacted the Permanent Secretary on the issue, it was noted that the Amerindian Affairs Ministry had nothing to do with the removal of the vendors and were not even aware that they had been removed.
