Double-header plannedThe Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport nationwide Inter-Block Football Competition is set to continue with a double-header this Saturday, at the Plaisance Community Centre ground.
In the opening encounter at 18:00 hrs 110 Street will take on Industry to be followed by the clash between 40 Block and Scheme at 20:00 hrs.
When Kaieteur Sport visited the venue yesterday, most of the players involved in the competition were engaged in a practice match as they prepare for the start of the tournament.
Speaking with some of the players, they all expressed similar sentiments for the event, stating that it is a welcome activity in the community and extended thanks to the Organisers.
The competition according to Parliamentary Secretary within The Ministry Steve Ninvalle was organised to offer residents of the respective communities, where the games are played, other alternatives and also to spot raw talent and provide the necessary guidance for a career in the sport.
Speaking with former National Coach Paul James, who is in charge of Front Line, one of the teams contesting the tournament, he said that his bunch is made up predominantly of under-17 players and they are just grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the event.
“At this level winning is not our emphasis, we are just happy that we’ve gotten the opportunity to compete,” James explained.
He added that his team trains regularly and they are well prepared and hopefully will be able to entertain the fans.
