A 50-year-old grandmother was yesterday granted $25,000 bail for allegedly throwing two bottles of pepper sauce on a teenage girl.
Jacklyn Lander, who resides at 83 Leopold Street, is accused of assaulting Andrea Atherly, on August 30.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge during her appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
Attorney-at-Law James Bond, who represented Lander, told the court that his client operates a confectionery stand at Leopold Street.
He said that the alleged victim, Andrea Atherly and others were involved in a heated argument near Lander’s stall, and his client asked them to move.
According to Bond, the teen responded by striking his client in the face.
But Atherly told the court that Lander had accused her of saying something about Lander’s granddaughter.
According to Atherly, she denied the allegation. But Lander said that shortly after, the defendant, who was in the company of her daughter, started pointing at her.
The teen said that she then went up to Lander and asked her why she was pursuing the matter.
She alleged that Lander then picked up a bottle of pepper sauce that was on her stand and threw it on her.
Atherly said that Lander went upstairs and brought down another bottle of pepper and emptied the contents of that bottle too on her.
The defendant was then granted bail and ordered to return to court on November 9.
