The rebuilding of the dormitory, which was burnt on Sunday killing three students at Waramadong, Upper Mazaruni, was yesterday discussed at Cabinet.
The design and cost for the new structure is to be submitted to Cabinet for approval.
Speaking with Kaieteur News yesterday, Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh said that preparations are being made to have the parents of the three dead children return to their community with the bodies tomorrow for burial.
He added that within a week the design and cost for the new dormitory will be submitted to Cabinet.
The Education Minister pointed out that plans are being made so as to facilitate the prompt rebuilding of the dormitory to house students at the school.
The three students, Seleza Sam, 11, Stephanie David, 13, and Shandeleza George, 14, died on Sunday at Waramadong School dormitory after an unattended candle reportedly caused a fire.
Reports stated that the fire started at about 22:40 hrs in the female dormitory of the institution.
The students had reportedly lit a candle and had apparently fallen asleep, leaving it unattended.
The three dead girls are all from Quebanang Village, Upper Mazaruni, which is some five hours away from their school.
Kaieteur News was told that Sam’s older sister jumped from the upper floor of the building, breaking her foot in the process. Sam, on the other hand, returned for her book bag, and perished.
Minister of Education has since suspended classes in the area for a week until proper arrangements are put in place to accommodate the students.
By Monday, he said, arrangements will be put in place to accommodate the full complement of students at the school.
