In an all West Demerara final, Windsor Forest held their nerves to defeat Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) to win the 2008 Muslim Youth Organisation / Trophy Stall Tapeball Cricket competition at the MYO ground on Sunday afternoon.
Captain of the 2008 Inter-Jamaat Champion Team Muhammad Nizamuddeen (4th left) collects the winning trophy from tournament coordinator Imran Khan on behalf of sponsors, Trophy Stall. Man-of-the-match Abrahim Nizamuddeen is standing 2nd right.
In what was an absorbing day of rivalry which began with the quarter-finals and then the semis, the championship game ended in an exciting tie but Windsor Forest prevailed in the bowl off to cart off the top prize.
Man-of-the-match Abrahim Nizamuddeen lashed his way to 34 as Windsor Forest reached 64-4 off their allotted 8-overs, the allotment reduced from 10 due to fading light.
Abrahim whose innings was decorated with 4 sixes and 2 fours received valuable support from Abdulla Nizamuddeen with 17.
Excellent bowling by Ahmed and Muhammad Nizamuddeen with figures of 2-3 and 2-9 restricted Meten-Meer-Zorg to 64-9 when the overs ran out.
MMZ needed 6 runs off the final over but were limited to 5. In the ensuing bowl off Windsor Forest kept their nerves to edge MMZ as only one player was able to hit the wicket out of five from each team.
In the semi finals, Windsor Forest turned back the challenge of Hustlers XI while Enterprise lost to MMZ. The presentation of prizes is set for this weekend. (Franklin Wilson)
