A 20-year-old Haslington woman was shot in her left hand while fighting off a man who attempted to rape her last Sunday night.
The woman, who resides in Block ‘C’, Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was on her way home at around 22:40 hours when the attack occurred.
According to the police, the intended victim was walking in the Haslington New Scheme when the suspect who was wearing a toque to conceal his identity tried to force her to the ground.
A scuffle ensued, during which the man shot the young female in her left hand before fleeing the scene.
The woman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she was treated and sent away.
Police say that they were given no proper description of the suspect but will be staking out the area in an attempt to apprehend him.Investigations are continuing.
