DEAR EDITOR,
Guyana has done it again. Our President, His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, accepted the challenge and opportunity to host Carifesta X, confident that, whether in the country or residing abroad, his people at all levels would rise to the occasion; and it is clear for all to see that the people have done so unreservedly and magnificently.
There are those who said that we should not have hosted CARIFESTA, because we have this or that problem. Some of these problems exist only in the minds of these naysayers, while others are common to several other countries, within and without the region.
However, this was no reason for us not to have hosted Carifesta X; and having done so, there will be enormous benefits in many areas now and in the years to follow.
There are some others who lecture us interminably that we should have done this or that, and yet when we decide to do things, these same people lecture us that we should not do so.
Sure, we have problems to solve, and we are going to do so, or address them. Which country doesn’t have problems? But, nevertheless, we must continue to build on our dreams, hopes and aspirations, along with our partners.
CARIFESTA X is another success story for our country, as well as for all those who participated and otherwise contributed.
John Da Silva
