Bandits, armed with a gun and knife, relieved a Scottsburg Housing Scheme, Corentyne family of cash and jewellery, at about 20:20 hrs on Saturday.
Police say that Zalima Jamaludeen, a 36-year-old businesswoman, and her mother, 71-year-old Ramdeo Lotan, were watching television in the upper flat of their two-storey home, leaving a door open, when the suspects climbed into the home and held up the occupants, demanding money and jewellery.
One bandit stood guard while the other ordered Jamaludeen into a bedroom, where she handed over $330,000 and a quantity of jewellery. The bandits then assaulted the businesswoman’s elderly mother before escaping.
