The battle for a place in the championship match of the Chubby under-14
league, organised by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and sponsored by Guyana Beverage Inc., is set for today at the Tucville ground.
The teams in with a chance of achieving this aim are Beacons, Thomas United, Fruta Conquerors and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) who were all victorious in their quarter-final matches yesterday at the same venue.
Beacons and Thomas United were triumphant by similar 3-0 margins over Renaissance and Santos respectively, while GFC needled Strike Again in a hard fought encounter and Fruta Conquerors were pushed to the brink by First Assembly of God before their experience saw them through via penalty kicks, 3-1.
It was another day of intense football rivalry between players who will one day be representing their country.
Thomas United, who topped group B with 11 points in the preliminary stage and still unbeaten, were again in destructive mood and continues to show that quite a few of their players can step up to the plate on any given day to deliver the required goods.

This time around it was midfielder Diequan Vancooteen who hit in all their goals against an outplayed Santos, fourth place finishers of group A.
Santos, were never allowed to settle as Thomas took the attack to them from the first whistle. Vancooteen hit the back of the nets in the 13th, 46th and 59th minute to take his tally in the competition to four. Thomas will now face GFC in their semi-final encounter this morning.
GFC, third place finishers in group A, upset the runner up team of group B, Strike Again, with the lone goal of their match up.
It was an intense affair between two determined sides but it was the Bourda lads who dug in at the deep end to take victory and a place in today’s semis.
Their captain, Shackille Brown was the hero of the game taking matters into his own hands with only 8 minutes to go in the 60 minute game, to bury w a well taken shot past the Strike Again goalkeeper.
Beacon, who won last year’s inaugural Chubby championship, played at the under-13 level, have shown that they are the team to beat with another easy win.
They ended at the top of group A along with Fruta Conquerors with 13 points each but took the leader position due to a better goal difference, scoring 10 and letting it one the same as Conquerors, who scored on four occasions. They both have also kept their unbeaten records intact.
But Beacons, behind a double from Kason Dey, his second double of the competition, 15th and 26th minutes, guided his team to the semi-finals.
The other goal came as a result of a defence error in the 11th minute. Beacon will face Thomas in what is expected to be a mouth watering semi-final match up this morning.
Conquerors had the toughest fight of the day against the improving First Assembly line up who put on another solid display but their inexperience proved to be their down fall against the seasoned Conquerors team.
Regulation time was a see saw battle with both teams creating chances, Conquerors the most but were unable to penetrate as they would have wished.
Penalty kicks had to be taken to break the deadlock and Conquerors came out on top 3-1. Sherwin James, Ryan Hackett and Captain Pernel Schultz were the scorers for the Fruta side.
The respective winners will advance to the championship match set for next Saturday while the losers will face off in the third and fourth place encounter which precedes the final.
