Former National Footballer Jamain ‘Turtle’ Alleyne laid to rest

Former national footballer Jamain Alleyne was laid to rest following a moving funeral Service at the New Haven Resting Home, 95 Cemetery Road, yesterday afternoon.
Apart from close family members including Alleyne’s Mother and close family members, the service which saw Reverend H. Abrams delivering the Homily, was also attended by President of the Guyana Football Federation Colin Klass and President of Santos Football Club Frank ‘English’ Parris.
The eulogy was read by Denise Sam while the first and second readings were done by Myrtle Thomas and Lisa Thomas.
Tributes were also offered by club executives and a number of family members and friends of the late Alleyne who was a former Santos club player and captain who died last Friday following a brief period of illness at the age of 27.
During his playing career, Alleyne represented Guyana at the under-16, 18, 20, 23 and senior levels. He also captained Guyana at the under-20 level.
He was an accomplished and skillful midfield player and among his qualities were his nimble touches of the ball, good knowledge of the game, a great motivator and warrior.
Quiet by nature, Jamain was always recognized as a good player and in most teams he was always the youngest member. This trend started at the under-16 level.
At age 21 he earned his first call up to the senior national team back in 2002, when Guyana played in Curacao against the Netherlands Antilles.

Due to his general capabilities as a player, Alleyne was always respected as a leader and wore the captains’ armband for Santos and the national under-20 teams.
