DEAR EDITOR,
Top Guyanese comedian and storyteller Ken Corsbie will be among the featured artistes at a Guyana Night to be held on Friday, September 26, 2008 at the new Pegasus Banquet Hall and Conference Centre in Orlando.
The Night of Guyanese Culture and Cuisine is intended to showcase the country’s rich cultural diversity following closely on the heels of the hosting of CARIFESTA X.
Among others to feature that evening is designer Godfrey Chin, who apart from sharing his Guyanese Nostalgia series will decorate the venue to recreate the Garden City of Georgetown as well as display a range of photographs depicting historic and contemporary Guyana.
Put on by the Pegasus and the Caribbean Sun newspaper, Guyana Night will also feature folk songs by Alan Khan, calypsonian John ‘Slingshot’ Drepaul who will open the night’s activities with his popular ‘Welcome to Guyana’, Annant Hansraj, the Maya Dancers and tassa drumming.
As part of the evening’s attractions there will be the staging of a Guyanese style Hindu wedding and a Queh Queh.
Lloyd Ramsubick, proprietor of the Pegasus, is co-chairing the planning of the event with Wesley Kirton, publisher of the Caribbean Sun newspaper.
The event will take the form of dinner theatre which will allow patrons to enjoy not only the rich and diverse culture of Guyana but also the wide variety of Guyanese cuisine reflecting the ethnic make up of the country.
This will certainly be an evening which will bring back memories to those Guyanese who have not visited their homeland for quite sometime as well as educate those born here to Guyanese parents.
The Caribbean American business community in Central Florida has thrown its support behind this event by serving as co-sponsors.
Among those supporting the event are Laparkan Shipping, Minuteman Press, Naraine’s Bakery, 1st Empire Financial, Raj Travel, Vani’s Productions, Breakaway Moments, Matrina Couture, Inc, Roberts & Roberts Management, the Guyanese American Cultural Association of Central Florida (GACACF), Geeta’s Market, Hibiscus Place Apartments, and Chris Moving Service.
